Normanton on Soar, dating from the 12th Century, is situated beside the river Soar at the most southerly point of the county of Nottinghamshire and overlooks the county of Leicestershire which is sited on the opposite side of the river.
The village has a population of around 400 with six streets or lanes, including two public rights of way, one of which, Soar Lane, gives access to the river.
