Visitors entering the village from the direction of Stanford on Soar will first pass the Ferry House (marked by a small roadside signpost), behind which, on the river, is a rare example of a chain ferry. The Ferry can be viewed by following the path which runs beside, and to the rear of, the Ferry House.
A little further along, on the opposite side of Main Street, is the Village Hall, behind which can be found the Village Shop. The land on which the hall and shop stand was kindly donated by Miss Joanna Herbert Stepney, owner of the Paget Estate. There is also a play area for young children here and, in time, it is hoped to develop other recreational facilities on this site.
Opposite the Village Hall stands the 12th C Parish Church of St.James.which holds regular services, a Sunday School Club, and various activities during the year including the Fete in early September, a service in partnership with the Boat Club and Concerts.
The Old Post Office (15th century) can then be viewed before reaching the Plough Inn. Also in Main Street can be seen the Manor House and Primary School. At the far end of Main Street is the privately run Soar Boating Club.
The village is surrounded by a network of well maintained footpaths alongside which, in late Winter and Spring, can be seen a colourful show of snowdrops, daffodils and bluebells.
Thriving local activities include the Womens Institute, Men’s Association, Village Choir and Ladies Walking Group
